The new Vekoma SLC Seats and Restraints that have been shown before on many sites are now being tested on the Great Nor'Easter at Morey's Piers in New Jersey. The things look amazingly comfortable and are sure to be a great improvement to all SLC's.

Here's a video of the new train testing: http://www.capemaycountyherald.com/article/10757-moreys-tests-new-roller-coaster-seat

Wow, those restraints look great! I definitely hope more parks follow in this direction.

This is a fresh new concept and it seems to be the hot new thing amongst a lot of the industry leaders. For example, Intamin has implemented an almost identical system on their Zac Spin roller coasters, Bolliger and Mabillard has similar features present on their flying design, and now Vekoma has taken the initiative to incorporate a more free form design to their already successful SLC model. I think that this will greatly improve the ride, but at the same time, a lot of what makes an SLC rough comes from the wheel assembly, with the lateral rail wheels being located on the inside of the design. I think the head thrashing will be eliminated, but I still imagine that the violent vibrations that you feel at certain points in the ride will still be noticeable, regardless of what this new design does for the rider's experience.

^I'm confused, is it just the restraints and seats they replaced? Or is it the enitire train?

The only thing that has been modified is the over the shoulder restraint.

They look so much better then the old restraints. I hope I can get over to Morey's soon before it closes for the winter.

I agree. I think the ride would actually seem rougher since you're not concentrating on not hitting your head on the restraints. Still your ears would love you if you rode this style of restraints over the original.

The only bad possibility that I believe these new restraints might bring, is like what you all have been saying, more roughness. But i see this in the form of jerking around much more now that you don't have something big and bulky blocking you from moving your head side to side. Maybe some possible neck snapping too? haha. Well even if that does occur i personally like that better than coming off the ride with my ears hurting. Mixing a vekoma slc with the old restraints and chilly night weather is not so good on the ears. =\

If this works...goodbye head banging!

Those trains look so much more comfortable! I really hope these new trains are sucessful, and if they are, I hope Kong will get them eventually.

The only bad thing I can surmise would be they might cause some discomfort...if the restaints are constantly 'pulling' to get the slack out and then click tighter when the slack is taken up (kind of like when you lock a seatbelt in a car, it'll click as slack is taken in). I don't know though, it may not not do this.

Still, very innovative and looks way ahead of the old OTSR's.

If Vekoma started changing the old SLC seats into the sparking new one, I guess its ride will give all the riders 'awesome SLC ride experience with no head bangs'. Plus it looks like we'll be able to put the hands up during the intense flight.

They really are more comfortable. Getting to test them out at last year's IAAPA event, the feel of them was really really nice and everyone there mentioned it will benefit the company.

They seriously need to get some of these on B&M inverts, I think that would be a worthwhile investment

There really isn't a need for modifications on anything other than this, as there really wouldn't be anything to "invest" in. I was reading somebody else's thoughts on this and they brought up a really good point. Morey's Piers is a Pay-per-ride amusement park, which actually justifies their reason to do this. By providing a more comfortable ride, they can get more people to re-ride it, thus making more profit off of the attraction. In the instances of parks that is a pay for all admission, there really isn't any "need" to modify the attraction from an economical standpoint, and if they did, it wouldn't be for economic reasoning, but more for guest satisfaction. The sad part about this though is that Profit supersedes Satisfaction in the world of business...even if the business has to do with leisure...

O.o Vekoma's making a move! (Less head banging) Anyways I like these restraints, but they almost remind of of B&M restraints though like Tatsu's.

The only thing that has been modified is the over the shoulder restraint.

The whole train's modified.
Look at the back of the cars at the one minute point in the video and you can tell they changed not only the OTSR but the entire first car.

I guess your right, my mistake...

I still don't think that unless that wheel assembly is modified that its going to have any direct impact with the vibrations you feel in your seat...

I like the new trains. I just wish they had some sort or bar to hold on to on the OTSR part like B&M inverts. Otherwise, they'll probably provide the most open invert experience.

Vekoma seems to be stepping up their game recently. First they came out with the new laps bars for their Boomerangs, and now new restraints for the SLC's. They're improving the most important flaw in their rides. The restraints. These new restraints will definetly be a hit. If all goes well, they'll be popping up in parks everywhere.

Yes, I'm with your thoughts. Vekoma is now up and doing on inventing new thrill rides, so they can let the riders feel so fun, or bliss.
