I finally made it back out to the Point on Saturday, and finally got my first ride on Maverick.
I got to the park around 9:45. After checking in at Breakers, etc., I waited about 45 min. at the Magnum gate to get in. After the rush at opening, I made it to Maverick, where I waited about 20 minutes only due to Maverick still finishing testing. I also caught a glimpse of Tony Clark taking a test ride.
The ride is phenomenal. The fast lift is awesome, and the drop is even more awesome. After the airtime filled drop, you make a hard snap to the right into the S-turns, which are incredible, and into the airtime-loaded bunny hill. The twisted horseshoe roll is a great element, with plenty of 0 or at least near-0 Gs. The launch is where it's at though; a fast 70 mph blast into a hard left turn up 74 feet in the air is amazing. The new S-turn is just as good as it would be with a heartline roll, although, I don't know if I'd want a heartline roll at the speed it's going. The twist and dives are sensational. The 2nd twist and dive into the small bunny hill is probably the best 2-element combination I've ever seen. It doesn't look like much, but every time I rode it, I lost my mind right there. I had a hard time writing this review. Words cannot describe the ride. 11/10 for Maverick.
As for the rest of the day, one word sums it up: crowded. Looking around Pointbuzz, it seems I'm not alone in that statement. I'm interested to see the attendance figures for that day. MF had numerous breakdowns. maXair is still closed. Raptor had 2 hour waits all day. Mantis was out of the queue. Iron Dragon was 45 min. Even Mean Streak had a 1 hour wait. Magnum even had 45 min-1 hour, and that's a very big people eater.
Maverick at night is even better than in the day. Perhaps it was just warmed up, but my 2 night rides were 1000x better than a morning ride, and even that was sensational. I scored a ride with Matt on my first night ride, as he snuck out of the house to come meet up with me. We really made the 2.5 hour wait go by quickly and had a few good laughs. The ride also had what looked like some block errors or something, so that was about a 20 min. delay.
I guess I accidently uploaded these at thumbs. I guess I'll leave it though.
