I've had many agrguments between these two magneficent coasters with friends. Personally to me Scream blows Batman away with its amazing inversions, specifficaly the Butterfly(I think thats the correct term. What do you think?

I think the general feeling is that Batman takes the cake. I'm a big floorless fan, but Batman's intensity blows my mind every time. A little difficult to compare the two, but Batman > Scream!, every time.

I too believe Batman wins this one, Scream! is one of the bumpiest B&M's I've been on, and while fun, Batman's intensity and style beats it.

Batman for sure, everyone loves a good B&M invert! Plus, Batman's ugly, gravel, steel, and graffiti look is part of the theme.

Funny, I am a Huge Batman Comic book/ Movie lover and the love the theme of Gotham city, but Why dont they make it yellow and black the true Batman Col,ors I've always wondered that

Gray and black is as much a Batman color scheme as yellow and black.

Really, any combination of gray, black, and yellow is perfect.

And that's all I can really even bring myself to contribute to this thread.

... specifficaly the Butterfly(I think thats the correct term...

You mean cobra roll...

These are both pretty great coasters, but I have to give this one to B:TR. B:TR's layout is so much more fun with how compact it is and the theme gives it a huge advantage over Scream!'s pretty much nonexistent theme. I do have to admit though, Scream!'s first drop and interlocking corkscrews are a lot of fun.

I've ridden B:TR(SFGAM/SFSTL and Medusa(SFGADV), so I feel I can place my thoughts.

While I love how intense and fast B:TR is, I have to go with Medusa/Scream. The inversions are incredible, there is good speed, and it is a nice long layout. B:TR is more of a thrill while Medusa/Scream is more fun IMO.(I base rides on fun not intensity)

I'd have to say B:TR. Taken with just the coaster itself, they're almost comparable, but once you add the best superhero ever and great theming to one, and a super exciting parking lot theme with people's faces screaming on posters to the other, B:TR kicks butt.

Well, I know you're talking about the ones at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but as for Great Adventure...

I find Medusa to be much better then Batman: The Ride. Personally, I don't really even like Batman, not sure why.

Michael

Have not ridden either *sobs*
but from what I can tell (and heard), BTR looks far superior to Scream; better theming, more intense, smoother.

rollercoasterfreak91
11-11-2007, 08:44 PM
The two parks B:TR and Scream/Medusa really can't be compared. Well, the B:TR's can, but Scream has no theme whatsoever, and Medusa is at least over grass.
*Wonders why West Coast is cursed w/ parking lot coasters, and assumes Tony Hawk will be too.*

Comet
11-11-2007, 08:48 PM
^The only difference is the fact that one is over grass and that one is over cement.
To me that makes them pretty comparable.

Dan
11-11-2007, 08:49 PM
But Medusa has a theme to it, a story behind it. Scream! is just about people screaming...

Michael
11-11-2007, 08:51 PM
^What theming? :p

Comet

Medusa...theme, what?

rollercoasterfreak91
11-11-2007, 09:03 PM
Medusa @ SFDK, ppl!

Dan
11-11-2007, 09:08 PM
Just the name and the building are enough to beat out Scream!.

Jake
11-11-2007, 09:16 PM
Medusa...theme, what?

I suppose the building and all the plants in the queue aren't theming enough for you? I thought Medusas' station was very well themed..

Alas we are hideously off topic, so in an effort to steer us back on track..

After riding both again on Friday, I found Scream! to be very bumpy, worse than usual even. Where-as Batman was performing grade-a as usual.

When I first rode Scream in 2006 it was better (to me) than Medusa west. In just a year, the ride has become unusually rough and no longer holds a position in my favorite coasters. I will agree with Jake about Batman being superior to Scream. They had a good concept for Scream, but it just failed miserably.

Let's take a look at both of the rides at hand in an organized fashion!

Scream
Trains- Floorless
Drop- Nothing really special, yet quite fun in the back.
First Loop- Decent hangtime, and taken at a slower pace.
Dive Loop- Again, nothing really special, kinda fun.
Zero-G- The best element on the ride, and gives perfect floater.
Cobra- Pretty good for a cobra.
Various Turns After- Not intense at all. Just fun. Also the MCBR takes quite a bit of speed off.
Interlocking Corks- Pretty fun, in my opinion the second best part of the ride.
Theme- Basically colors, walls, and a parking lot.

Batman
Trains- Inverted
Drop- Like Scream, nothing special. Fun in the back.
First Loop- Taken at high speed. Extremely fun in the front.
Zero-G- Also taken at a pretty decent speed. Strong laterals and also extremely fun.
Second Loop- A little slower, but still pretty intense.
Turnaround and Short Drop- Provides a breather in the action. Well placed.
Corkscrews- Taken pretty fast, providing strong g's and are both extremely enjoyable.
Theme- Well, it's hard to describe but it's 110% better then Scream's. lol.

Clearly, in my opinion, Batman blows Scream out of the water before you even take into account the "bumpiness" that Scream has accumulated over the last few years.

Maybe it's just a weak spot for me, but Intense Inverts are exactly my favorite. Last year, Scream easily took the spot, but even I, this year, have noticed odd vibrations coming from Scream, taking a lot of the fun out of it. I find Batman to be less forceful when seated in the front seat.

I honestly think right now it's a tie as both coasters have flaws/postives.

Michael
11-14-2007, 10:07 PM
^ It sounds like the vibrations on scream are an issue with the rolling stock :(

Cody
11-14-2007, 11:12 PM
I don't know which one to pick.

I like Scream only in the front seat. It has all the speed, bumpiness, and the longer ride time. With the airtime on the ride and the turns matching to the speed, the ride has a nice flow to it.

I would choose Batman over Scream, but the ride to me is just too short. The insanity and the constant rushing is a good thing but sometimes I have one of those moments where I get off the ride and say "what just happened?"

batman is cool...better than scream...

I remember Scream being pretty smooth before that..."accident".

disneylhand
11-15-2007, 07:24 PM
^Why would the accident have been the cause of Scream's 'bumpiness'?

Sorry, I just don't understand your reasoning.

Dan

Scream! was pretty bumpy the first time I rode it the year it opened, I don't know about this accident for some reason, but it definately hasn't gotten any better.

Top Thrill Dolphin
11-15-2007, 07:35 PM
Also, youhow2, are you implying that the accident was somehow intentional?

As far as which one is better, I'd have to go with Batman. Batman is smoother and more intense. Scream rattles a bit (ever since day 1) and kinda forceless (the 0-g roll kicks ***, though).

vedved82491

What exactly was/is this "accident?"

The "accident" was an employee walking in a restricted area, and well ya. B:TR wins hands down for me. Intensity takes it.

p0tat0
11-17-2007, 07:03 PM
B:TR is shorter than Scream, but it packs a punch that Scream cannot defeat =P

Youhow2
11-18-2007, 02:32 PM
I'm just saying that I remember riding it before the accident and it not being bumpy...Not saying that decapitation by coaster damaged it, The coaster, that is...

Dan
11-18-2007, 02:34 PM
Have you ridden it since? It may be that you have a higher tolerance to less noticeable bumps in the track, especially since it's not extremely rough, just bumpy.

Youhow2
11-18-2007, 02:38 PM
rode it earlier this year... I really dont think it was bumpy, but I did notice a few bumps... I dont mind bumps at all, unless it's like arrow-looper bumps, but then again I love arrow loopers, and I dont mind bumps... Did I just contradict myself?

thatdancingbear
11-18-2007, 07:20 PM
Scream!'s train rattles going into the first loop and exiting. Besides that, Its not too bad...

Batman has re-rideability without leaving the station though...

sirloin
11-18-2007, 07:33 PM
Not if SFMM's B-TR is as smooth as SFOT's. 10 consecutive laps on SFOT's, my friends. Wish I could have gone longer, but the park closing kinda put an early end to my B-TR marathon.

vedved82491
11-23-2007, 05:56 PM
OH, that..."accident", well no my first ride on Scream was summer 06 and I found it to be incredibly smooth, with no complaints, then this year, the two times I went, both times Scream seemed shaky, some seats worse than others, and yes I believe it's entering the first loop as well as the diving loop.

Jake
11-23-2007, 07:26 PM
As far as Scream!'s roughness is concerned, I didn't really notice anything until this year. Last year it was running much, much better. So I'm not quite sure what went wrong since August of last year to April of this year..

socalMAN123
11-29-2007, 01:26 AM
^ Yeah, Scream's roughness, although slight, has just showed up within this past year. I think it is just a sign of age, even though it's not that old. It really shuffles in the back car especially. As far as this topic goes, I would put Scream! over Batman mainly because Scream! is amazing and forceful, while Batman is just forceful.

Dan

I don't find Scream! very forceful at all, actually. What parts of the ride make it forceful to you?

Airtime&Gravity
11-29-2007, 07:24 PM
I don't find Medusa/Scream forceful, but the inversions are great, and the ride is just pure fun. Batman on the other hand is very intense and not as fun.

Cyrus
12-04-2007, 05:34 PM
i personally HATE batman, so much that if it werent for people talking me onto it...i would never even ride it any more. its too intense, the blood rushes to my feet and it freakin hurts. im against that ride for sure. Scream on the other hand is fun. ive noticed that it isnt as smooth as it used to be, but still...id ride it 12 times in a row over batman once any day.

Jake
12-04-2007, 06:07 PM
its too intense, the blood rushes to my feet and it freakin hurts.

I think the blood rushing to your feet thing is typical of all inverts.. I've noticed it on Silver Bullet, and it's just about as forceless as it gets.

Michael
12-04-2007, 06:10 PM
^^ how is that a bad thing? Isn't that what makes a ride intense? Unless people these days are just going for the "pretty" rides...

I think Batman has a better scenery and scream's engineering design looks dull. I would say Batman is better.

I saw a video "Mr. Freeze vs. Batman" . That is a good comparison since they have the same movie theme.

You are exactly right. A Premier LIM shuttle vs. a B&M invert. Quality comparison.

Hey, which do you prefer, grape soda or Toyota Celicas? The Boeing 757 or Crest Toothpaste? Elitch Gardens or fruit snacks?

All you could compare is the theme, my friend.

Jake
12-07-2007, 12:26 PM
Grape soda, Crest Toothpaste, Fruit snacks.

What's so hard about that, Justin?

You were 2 for 3. The 757 was the right answer to question number two.

Jake

Have you tried Crest's new minty fresh toothpaste?

I think it would change your mind.

rollercoasterfreek
12-07-2007, 12:49 PM
I would prefer Toyota Celicas since I am a Toyota guy. Cars are cool.

Boeing 757 cause I like planes. It's not that I hate Crest but I like planes.

Fruit Snacks for now since I don't know what Elitch Gardens is like.
