I'm sure some of you remember San Luis from the old forums. Here's where we left off:

Well San Luis Amusement Park has had a lot of changed over the years that I've been gone. When I left you, there were some rides, a flume, Boomerang, kiddie coaster, etc. But now...

http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/1679/0701pe9.jpg
^ The top spin is gone and the kiddie coaster has been relocated. But what are those in the background? New attractions of course!

http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5576/0702gx9.jpg
^ With the park's major expansion, they added Western Brawl, a stunt/action show. Shown here are the stands which are currently waiting for the next show to begin.

http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/2144/0703bh3.jpg
^ Also new to the area is Pony Express a racing steeple chase! (I knew Knott's would steal the name!)

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/742/0704ma7.jpg
^ Pony Express was the most expensive ride ever built at San Luis, and quite a poor investment. The ride constantly loses money due to low capacity. (Remember, San Luis operates with free admission and a pay per ride ticketing system.) Pony Express is still a very nostalgic ride that a lot of visitors enjoy, very historical and such.

http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/6725/0705bc1.jpg
^ The newest and most popular ride at San Luis is Flying Turns. This classic attraction is built along the hillside where the kiddie coaster used to preside.

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7638/0706se6.jpg
^ And finally a shot of the Flying Turns midway in the evening. Lights line the path as guests get ready for night rides at the San Luis Amusement Park.

So there you have it, new photos from SLAP. While massive amounts of cash were spent over the past years, the park is apparently still looking to add more. Rumors are flying all around the internet as speculation runs high.

The log flume is currently closed and rumor has an extension to the flume and a show building are being added. Mountaineer is said to be getting an overhaul. A simple track realignment is first, but rumors claim the days are limited for this old coaster. A classic wooden coaster is said to be lined up to replace it.

Where will San Luis be in a few years, who knows? The park has over doubled in size in the past years...and lag hasn't caught up with them yet!

I personally think it looks excellent, however, the Kiddie coaster is EXTREMELY oversupported. It looks like that thing could withstand a war. Other than that, everything looks great. I like how you have the small family park look and feel to it, and I think the theming is very well-balanced, and by that I mean not overdone and not in need of improvement. I really like those lights in the last screeny. Which pack did you get those from?
Keep up the good work, but don't lose that small-park feel!

It's a portable style coaster, most of them have that look. It's thin beams in a lattice, instead of the occasional thick support.

It's looking great! I'd like to see more of Flying Turns. No suggestions for improvement!

That last screen looks so real!

This was one of my favorite RCT3 parks from the old forums, I'm happy to see it back on the new ones. :) It's very well themed, and I absolutely love Flying Turns and Pony Express. :)

That is incredible. My computer is too slow to make RCT3 parks like that, so the first screenshot just wowed me. Good job.

^ Today we're taking a short tour of Flying Turns. Here's a shot of the train racing down the hillside; this is without a doubt a terrain coaster.

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4411/0802dt0.jpg
^ Way down below is the helix finale, the fastest and most intense part of the ride.

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/9596/0803ut6.jpg
^ Here's an overview of Flying Turns. *NOTE: Please do not fly over SLAP in a helicopter without prior permission, it really destroys the atmosphere of the park. Thank you.

^ And finally a partial overview of the San Luis Amusement Park!

NEW RUMOR: Flying Turns may be getting resurfaced and some new paint on the steel braces. Also, the park is actively searching for a location within the park to build a new flat ride.

I personally think it looks excellent, however, the Kiddie coaster is EXTREMELY oversupported. It looks like that thing could withstand a war. Other than that, everything looks great. It does seem over supported in that shot, but it really isn't that bad. And the lights are from Vodhin's Light set.

Exactly, it's for the lattice look. Except that scenery is a bit thick for this usage.

That last screen looks so real!

Zonga, I love you :)

heh, sorry if I creeped you out there :p This park is fantastic, I could only dream of creating something this detailed and realistic. I love every bit of it; from the terrific pathways and theming, to the rides; all of which are fantastic. I especially took a liking for the flying turns, briliant layout, and it flows so nicley with the trees and terrain.

Glad to see this park running strongly :D

^ Back at San Luis now, and man were the rumors wrong this time around!

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/329/0902ep8.jpg
^ This wooden coaster has a custom built, out and back layout.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/434/0903fg3.jpg
^ The first train of riders fly down the second drop. This coaster uses old school six passenger cars with three cars on the train.

Thanks for the comment man, I should of warned everyone that people take the park's beauty different ways. :) Check back soon for more from San Luis!

The only thing I would suggest is the color scheme looks a bit too familiar ;) Maybe too much like the flying turns. What I would suggest is maybe making some of the color scheme a light brown mixed in with the dull brown, maybe that would visually separate the two :D

But I have to say, I'm impressed. The layout is simple, yet very twisted and thought out. It also has a similar style to some of the other rides in the park, and helps it fit in very well. Good job, keep it up

Yeah, I've had that comment before. Over the next few years the park is supposedly going to be re-painting some rides. Hopefully they can add some variation.

Have you considered adding concrete walls to the railroad tunnel entrance/exit in this (http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/9596/0803ut6.jpg) screen from Update #2?

^ Welcome back to San Luis where riders of the railroad have spotted something.

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/5934/1002lw9.jpg
^ No, no, not the shed...those containers. Only time will tell.

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/1271/1003ye2.jpg
^ Here's a shot of the Hill Side Eatery packing in the crowds. The record crowds recently have led to massive amounts of litter, thus the park has had to hire many new janitors.

http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/9431/1004kk9.jpg
^ Which leads to this problem, the park is not bringing in enough money. I know, I know, we're not all about the bottom line, but we need to bring in some more revenue. Any ideas? (And see, I do play with money! :))

^ Yes I have indeed. I'll pull up a screen shot of the other tunnel portal that I have done. It uses more of a wooden style instead of concrete, but still a great idea.

Jack up food prices, and in the stalls set the extras to the happy face, letting the guests choose the amount of "extra" they want, if you already haven't. If it allows you, set the price to go to the restroom at 10 cents. The peeps probably won't complain, unless you go any higher. In general, set items like souvenirs, on-ride photos, stuffed animals, maps, umbrellas, and all the little things to a price of around 20 cents more, depending on the product. Also, charge more for bigger thrill rides or rides that are most popular. Peeps won't want to pay $3.00 to ride a carousel, though they would for a popular ride. Add plenty of ATM's so guests don't go broke and leave the park.

That's all I can think of right now. It looks awesome, keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see whats in those containers.

EDIT:

Patron Burned at San Luis Holidays Preview

December 12, 2007 -- A patron at the San Luis Amusement Park's San Luis Holidays event was treated for 2nd degree burns at an area hospital. Officials say that the victim and friends crossed a fence line and proceeded towards an open flame.

Placed on the main midway at the park, a fire pit was burning during the preview. The victim allegedly was on a bet to stand on top of the logs. After a quick burn from the fire, the victim fell and was then spotted by park security.

The San Luis Police Department is currently investigating the accident. "It is unclear whether the victim or the park will press charges and/or sue," said Police Chief Sandburg.

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/8124/slap5dc6.jpg
^ Fences are there for a reason!

EDIT AGAIN:

The San Luis Amusement Park needs your help. In an attempt to diversify the rides offered, the park has decided to add a Ferris Wheel to the park. *shock*

There are currently two options that the park is considering:

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/9214/slap6xn7.jpg
A: The views are great as you have great vistas of the park. The location would also have its entrance next to the hill side gate. However, this location would require to removal and relocation of the parks corporate offices, something that is not wanted.

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/2700/slap7kp7.jpg
B: This location also offers spectacular views perched up above Flying Turns. You can see all of the park pretty well, including Racer and Pony Express, something that you can't see from location A. The entrance would be near the Pony Express, so the area has very slow foot traffic.

So let us know what you think, the future of San Luis depends on it! ;)

The Storm Runner
12-13-2007, 08:23 PM
Stupid GP....psh.

I go with B. :) Maybe add some more paths then, maybe going through stores or something. Or just leave it. It's nice to have a crowded path once in a while. :)

Nate
12-13-2007, 11:53 PM
Option A looks better from the screens, but option B might increase foot traffic in that area of the park.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9669/slap8cn5.jpg
^ The up hill gate is ready to welcome guests for this evenings event.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9308/slap9vi3.jpg
^ State inspectors were out recently to approve the parks new gates. These Vodhin manufactured gates are a great new safety feature to our railroad.

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6361/slap10kq2.jpg
^ And finally a ride op takes a test run on Copper Canyon.

Get ready for Opening Night!

Also, please let us know about the Ferris Wheel addition. Thanks!

^ A Christmas Carol has taken over the Western Theatre, which is normally home to Western Brawl.

^ Finally an overview of the area.

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9291/slap16ts1.jpg
^ A small set has also been set up along the midway. Different holiday shows play throughout the evening, none of which are quite as grand as A Christmas Carol however.

http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/1431/slap17ku2.jpg
^ Most rides are even open for San Luis Holidays.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/235/slap18yy2.jpg
^ Of course the park is running most at limited operation.

Thanks for stopping by for Opening Night here at the San Luis Holidays! We'd really appreciate any feedback so we can improve this event every year.

I find it amazing that you play with money and still manage to make everything look so good. I know when I play with real cash in RCT2 my parks are significantly scaled down and the scenery is pretty sparse... But this is incredible. Bravo!

Regarding the ferris wheel, I would go with option A. The ride dosen't seem to fit in too well on that hillside...

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm glad you like the Mountaineer refurb. The RCT3 spinner selection is pretty bad. Just the Mack cars on Vekoma track and then a spinning wild mouse. Oh well.

And Max, I've thought about it, but there is some weird glitch with this park. All the coasters have these odd purple squares that can only be seen from below the track level. The problem is that on some rides, when you go by a purple square, the game crashes. That's RCT3 for ya! :)

And once again, the comments are much appreciated! They really make me want to keep posting updates here!

Sounds like something wrong with missing textures???

The purple squares are underside of JCat’s support killer, featured in his original release of Steel Worx’s. The problem was later fixed and the pack was updated. You just need to install the newest version of Steel Worx’s and you’ll be good to go. :)

Nice update, by the way. The classiness this park has is par with Shyguy’s famous Wonder World. :)

Thanks for stopping by and as always, comments, questions, concerns, etc. are welcome!

Thank you so much Max! I'll have to try that next time I fire up RCT3.

I love it. :) It looks like those canoeers are going to tip! That log flume looks good, but how about a different color than the gray? Maybe a faint green?

That last screen looks so realistic the way that everything blends in with the stuff around it.

Ohh my Sweet Jesus. Let me just say ive just come across this, and this is know my favourite RCT3 project happening right now, and is a contender for best ive ever seen! The Christmas event was unbelievable! The Scenery is amazing, and the atmosphere in the park must be fantastic, makes me get all annoyed when I realise that its just a game!

Now my question...will it be available for download? And do we need specific custom scenery packs to download it so it'l work?

Keep up with brilliant work! I so wish it was real!

A B&M Batman clone would be so cool in this park...or a Georgia Scorcher clone. Anyway, great park!

I admit it, I've been playing this park quite a bit recently. But I've just been too lazy to post any updates. I'm very sorry.

But bleh, I have an update today!!!

^ The top of the park has been completely refurbished. The area now sports a mission theme.

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/713/133wk0.jpg
^ A fancy new queue line for Racer.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/8282/134vo0.jpg
^ Riders are totally diggin' the new station and queue.

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/4681/135cz4.jpg
^ The park is really running out of real estate. Rockin' Tug is built above a Copper Canyon turn. I'm still not too satisfied with the final result however.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/6188/136il8.jpg
^ Timber Mountain Log Ride has also received a major overhaul including the queue.

http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/774/131zs5.jpg
^ Finally, the old picnic grounds have gone under another transformation. A new bumper cars ride and this dark ride have been added. The Haunted Shack takes you into the depths of the mountains at San Luis.

Thanks for stopping by! I'll get to the individual responses and possibly a download within the next week.

I also admit I don't like the flat over Copper Canyon, however, if it doesn't have a tunnel already, it would be very cool, looking at Rockin' Tug.

That's the only flaw. Other than that, this is Freakin' amazing! I'm really glad that you didn't let this die. This is the most amazing RCT3 project I've seen other since Fisherman's Tower of Terror. The new mission theme fits great.

Way to go!:thumbup1:

Welcome to the forums! Just one thing to consider, please don't bring back topics that have not been posted in for a long time if you are not contributing to the discussion. This topic was posted in almost 10 months ago, and it was about the project being done. Just try and remember that when posting in topics.

Anyway welcome to the forums, I'm sure you will enjoy them.

You should add a B&M sitdown coaster and replace 1 of the older and less intense rides like the horse racing coaster.

Again, please don't bring back dead topics. The original author will post updates when they are ready. This thread hasn't had an update in over a year.
