View Full Version : Your 2008 Season
sfgam2006

Well, it seems that the 2007 season is coming to a close unless you live near Disney, Magic Mountain, Knott's, etc.. It is time to think about what you will be doing next year in 2008 and how many exciting coasters you will be riding. Next year is looking like one of my best years yet (maybe even better then my 7 park year of 2006).
Well anyways, where are you going)
California's Great America (All)..
Castles n Coasters
Disneyland Resort
- Disney's California Adventure
- Disneyland
Knott's Berry Farm (Sierra Sidewinder and Pony Express)..
Six Flags Great America (Deja Vu, Dark Knight, 1 Side of American Eagle)..
Universal Studios Flordia
- Islands of Adventure (All)
- Universal Studios (All)
Walt Disney World Resort
- Animal Kingdom (Expedition Everest)
- EPCOT
- Magic Kingdom (1 Side of Space Mountain)
- MGM Studios (Rock n Roller Coaster)
(): New Coaster
..: I might be going to either Chicago or California, so I am not sure which park(s) I am going to go to.
I think that is it, I am also going to Maui for my second time and a Western Caribbean Disney Cruise. What parks are you guys going to this year?
- Zach
It's honestly too hard to tell at this point, but here are some ideas for me...
-Las Vegas (NOW CONFIRMED)
-Buffalo Bills (NOW CONFIRMED)
-Major Parks South of Los Angeles
-Florida Parks
-Holiday World
-Hard Rock Park
And obviously, all my local SoCal parks.
Special Events in mind:
-West Coaster Bash
-Coaster Solace
-Universal Studios Hollywood Events
-Onride Photography and other cool perks at Magic Mountain (maybe this year?)
-Pony Express Opening Day
-Halloween Events
Next summer is going to be my biggest year to date, as of right now. More than likely I will hit a minimum of 4 new parks, and anywhere up to about 14, depending on how everything pans out
Confirmed parks:
SFMM
KBF
DLR
WoF
Trip 1
SFOG
Carrowinds

These are my planned parks:

There's also a slim chance of Hard Rock Park.
These aren't "fantasy trips" either. I already have non-refundable money invested in trip #2, and trip #1 shouldn't have a problem either.
I'll also have at least 78 new coasters under my belt this time next year.

Near positive: SFMM, DLR/DCA, KBF plenty of times. Maybe Adventure City for once. Edit: Vegas mid february too.
Anything else, I don't know at the moment.
Also, very small chance I might hit http://rcdb.com/pd1388.htm... Don't ask. :p

I wont be doing much for the 2008 season most likely. There is a small chance that I'll be going to Las Vegas, but when I say small, I mean 2% small.
I'll be going to Silverwood Theme Park, hopefully for opening day, which means 3 new credits, 4 if I decide to be a credit monger and ride the Zamperla kiddie that they have.
I have plans to make it back down to SoCal for Winter Coaster Solace @ KBF, which means another new credit (Sierra Sidewinder). And, chances are I'll also be going to the Disneyland Resort during this trip.
And, thats probably my whole season. If I do end up unemployeed sometime in 2008, I'll probably apply for a job at Silverwood. (Wish me luck!)
My 2008:
Memorial Day Weekend:
Hershey Park (Nantimi First Rider Session)
Dorney Park
Knoebels
Kennywood
Six Flags Great Adventure
Early Summer 2008:
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
California's Great America
Gilroy Gardens
Late Summer 2008:
Alton Towers
Thorpe Park
Blackpool Pleasure Beach
It looks like a promising season for me. :)

Then maybe Hard Rock Park if it's open around Thanksgiving next year.

Honestly, do any of you guys go to half the parks you say you're going to? If I can get to three parks in a season I'd be more than happy.

11-18-2007, 01:55 PM
^ I feel the same way, lol.
I'm sure I'll be hitting up:
Discovery Kingdom
CA Great America
Disneyland
Magic Mountain
Then of course there is always the wish list, but that's a different story.
My 2008.
I plan to hit up my home park of SFDK a few times throughout the year. New credit on THBS (and possibly the kiddie coaster Roadrunner Express)
On my birthday weekend (2nd weekend in May), I plan to drive down and go to SFMM. There are reasons other than my birthday for why I want to go that particular weekend.
Mid June: My first ever trip to Cedar Point!!!!:D I will spend at least two full days at the park.
August 7 - 18 (Confirmed): Theme Park Review East Coast USA!! At least 12 parks (I don't need to name them all ;)) and over 80 coasters!
This will be a great year for me as I have never been to any park east of Park at Mall of America. Depending on what all we go to on the TPR trip, combined with Cedar Point, I might get 100 new coaster credits next year!

Honestly, do any of you guys go to half the parks you say you're going to?
Probably not.
I don't expect to do all the parks I put in the maybe column, but it's too early to tell at this point.
Honestly, do any of you guys go to half the parks you say you're going to? If I can get to three parks in a season I'd be more than happy.
Usually. I'm lucky my Dad loves roller coasters too, so he's up for most of the mondo trips I plan.
theRock-steel
11-18-2007, 02:59 PM
First I should start with the locals:
Magic Kingdom
Epcot
Disney's Hollywood Studios (it's name next year)
Animal Kingdom
SeaWorld Orlando
Busch Gardens Africa
Universal Studios Florida
Islands of Adventure
I will be traveling to these (in time order):
Kennywood
Cedar Point
Holiday World
Six Flags Over Texas
SeaWorld San Antonio
Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Usually. I'm lucky my Dad loves roller coasters too, so he's up for most of the mondo trips I plan.
I wish my parents loved coasters as much as me. :(
I am taking a trip this summer of sole coasters, I have already confirmed it with my parents, but its just deciding between New England area or the South basically. If I go to the Florida parks I listed, well I will know that probably around June or July probably. Depends on how long it takes to get the information.

Georgia, South Carolina, probably Texas as well, depends on if we were to fly and stay with friends to start or no.

Wow, mine will sound pitiful, but here goes:
SFMM in December
Grad Nite at DL In May or June, probably.
Cedar Point in august, hopefully.
And SFDK sometime if i'm lucky. Nothing is confirmed but SFMM yet.
(But, if I go to college in SoCal...)
Woo!
Vegas trip in mid February confirmed. :p
I'll probably end up in Disney World some time. I'll almost definately have a BGA fun card by summer. Outside that I don't know too much. We rarely ever make it over to Universal and trips out of Florida don't happen save Christmas and Thanksgiving to visit family who live right near King's Dominion and Hershy Park and those places but we never go there save a one time trip to Hershy. My parents and my aunts and unles on my mom's side have been talking about going to Vegas, but it's not confirmed that --- if they go --- they will take me and whether or not we go to a park is a completely different story.

I expect 2008 to be a good year...especially if a certain HUGE theme park is an "OK" with my parents (CP)
So for sure I'm going to
Castles N' Coasters - Home park obv.
I should be going to:
Six Flags Magic Mountain, as we go like twice a year minimum.
If I'm luckyyyy:
CEDAR POINT! It'll be tough, and I'm still trying, so I hope to have the 'rents convinced. The main reason they don't want to do it is because "what else is there to do besides CP in Ohio?" Especially in a family where I'm the big coaster person, my brother can ride "moderate" coasters my mom is afraid of heights, and my dad gets motion sickness...
Also, I always have either a parent or family friend traveling to California, so maybe I'll get another run at KBF, DLR, USH, etc.
Only time will tell :D
Good luck with Cedar Point, especially if your the only coaster person in your family. I've had to deal with that problem for years, and the only way I got to Cedar Point was going with a friend (Ethan). As for other things to do in the Sandusky area..if your parents don't mind the drive to Cleveland there's all kinds of things to do...I guess..sure. Anyway, I can hardly believe all these trips you guys are planning on taking. I'm feeling pretty pleased with Hershey being my only trip "planned" for next year.
Since I'll have my car soon, I'm going to try to take a road trip up to Vegas as well.
I believe you have to be 21 to rent a hotel room in Nevada.
^ Yes, but I can drive up for the day (4.5 hour drive), and then head back home around 8pm.
-Alex
Ved, if there is anyone in your family who is an NFL fan, well Canton, Ohio is a drive away but its got the holiest NFL sanction there, Hall of Fame. Which just reminded me that if Derrick Thomas, R.I.P., gets inducted into the HoF this year I will be going there, so possibly a KI trip as well. As far as my plans go as of now it looks as if I will be going to the following parks.
SFMM
KBF
DLR
SFDK
CGA
HRP
SFOG
WoF
SFSL
SFKK
SFOT
Carrowinds
WDWR
BGA
UOR
and now depending on DT being inducted, should have happened 2 years ago, I may also go to KI and HW, but not including those 2 parks I will hit 84 new coasters, excluding kiddie rides, if all goes according to plan.
Six Flags over Georgia....
...and that's probally it.

12-11-2007, 11:43 AM
Oh yes, because the Simpsons looks like such a fantastic attraction.. *note the sarcasm dripping from this statement*
*Sigh* Here we go again....Oh well anyway. How can you seriously say that? Your talking about a show that has well over 500 Episodes and set the path for Family Guy, American Dad, as well as many others. This show now it turning into a ride were you can be in Springfield with the Simpsons and go through a world of theres instead of looking at it through a T.V. Screen. I also don't understand how you can't be happy that this is coming to USH as well. I've seen the pictures of the new paint and they look great. I have also heard from many sources(NOT SCREAMSCAPE) over UOR that the cars are looking great and the ride is going to be excellent. Sure big deal it's BTTF but there's more plans than throw a new car and a new video and call it a day. No, I believe they are also working on the ride's system itself. The other thing that makes this look good is the amount of publicity it has gave the parks. The publicity it has gave off is incredible. Does this prove a point that it is a good thing for USH and UOR or should I continue?
See you BELIEVE that they are working on the ride's systems, but you really don't know. From what I have heard, the systems will be exactly the same, of course I could be wrong. The Simpsons is failing in popularity, the new shows (heck even the old shows) aren't that funny, the whole franchise is just falling to pieces entertainment-wise in my book.
But to each his own, I suppose.
sheikra182
12-11-2007, 12:03 PM
Since when is it failing?! That show has always been popular. Look at the movie, that was a HUGE success and why you called the Simpsons a failing franchise I have no clue about because the movie was a success and raked in alot of money. The Merchandise is always selling at UOR. I don't know about USH, but I am always seeing the merchandise of the Simpsons around the park. But this franchise is not failing, the movie and latest merchandise cash income proved that. Not to mention the new video game.....
I thought I'd bring this to the table...
http://www.google.com/trends/viz?q=The+Simpsons,+Family+Guy,+Back+to+the+Future&date=all&geo=all&graph=weekly_img&ctab=0&sa=N
The blue is The Simpsons, the red is Family Guy, and the orangish is Back to the Future. While it's obvious that BTTF has lost its popularity, look at how much more popular Family Guy has been lately. THe jump of The Simpsons is obviously the movie, but look how long that lasted. As far as advertising, I've seen not one ad for the addition to USH, and I live fifteen or twenty minutes away.
Back on topic :D
My Las Vegas trip is confirmed, I'll be there MLK weekend! Other than that, things are up in the air for me.
I'd also like to note that just because a show is "popular", doesn't mean that the ride will be any good.
Speaking of Las Vegas, I might make a trip out there this summer, because my dad has a conference there.. We'll see.

Skillet is playing a show at the ted constant center in norfolk next sunday... 10 dollars general admission at the door... and since I work there, I'm sure I'll have a nice headstart on everyone who comes...

My mom got a e-mail from the Stratosphere today about cheap room rates between now and June so I may be going back to Vegas again for my b-day in May. This is still up in the air though but if airline rates are cheap as well, there's a good chance of this happening.

April 13th - (Not really coaster season, but y'know) Panic! At The Disco, Motion City Soundtrack. Honda Civic Tour.
June 25th and 26th - Cedar Point!
90% chance of a trip to southern California during spring break in three weeks. The trip will consist of KBF, DLR, and maybe USH. No SFMM since I went there a few times last year and X2 won't be open until after my trip down there.
An update for me - I'll be visiting Dorney Park, Six Flags Great Adventure, and probably Six Flags New England.

I love visiting Knotts and Disneyland in the summer!! First off there extremely close to my house, and secondly there just super fun to be at rather than bored at home... Knotts hasn't been busy yet this summer!! (Doesn't matter for me any ways!!) Disney yeah it's crowded but there are sick shows to watch and always good photography spots to find!! :cool1: Also I have a season pass for both so way not go? (lol) Thats just me!!
I also did go to Universal one time this year!! (Forgot that one.)

Florida Trip and First Cedar Point Trip have been canceled for me, both because of other events. At least I'll be able to make it to the second CP trip.
I'd go to some more parks if I had some dough, god damn gas prices. I'm really interested to see how many of the people make it to these parks
Ive been too...
Cedar Point
Kings Island
Waldameer
Holiday World
And thats it thus far. Will be going to kennywood in about 2 weeks and then hershey some time soonish. Hopefully another Holiday World trip soon and I'd love to make it out to Indiana Beach sometime this year. Work and upcoming school may have a limit on what I can do.

I hope to have my East Coast trip either next year or the year after. The park I will visit are *in order* are: Hershey Park, SFGAvd, SFA, KD, and BGE. I know it sounds like a very expensive trip. But my family has been saving up for a big trip like this for about 2 years now.
We get most of our money from recycling cans and bottels. I know it doen't sound like a lot of money but last time we went we got enough to get my brother and half of my into Herhsey.

Some people may think I'm having a bad season, but not in my opinion.
Lets see...
-Went to Silverwood theme Park for the first time.
-Got 4 new credits, 1 more on the way making for my 35th credit.
-Became a ride operator.
-So far got signed off to operate 6 different rides at Silverwood (Tremors, Timber Terror, Corkscrew, Thunder Canyon's load station, Bumper Boats, Elephants).
And I believe thats it lol. But yeah, in my opinon, good season so far. :)

My season sucked! My family and I every year go to Orlando during the summer, we went to BGT, IOA, Universal, and all of the Disney parks... oh yeah I forgot about Seaworld, anyway I couldnt go on any of the rollercoasters because of my knee surgery and I have to use crutches, this season is going to suck.

I got a great season this year.
SFMM x5 (I think)
KBF x2
DL & CA x1 for each.
SFDK x2
CGA x2
SCBB x2
Gilroy Gardens x1
Sea World San Diego x1
Lagoon x1
Las Vegas x2
Castle Park x2
Scandia x1
Adventure City x1 (lol)
Pacific Park x1
and...I think that's it. I'll be going to SFMM about 2 more times this year, Castle Park about 1 more time, KBF about 1 more, Legoland for my first time to get 3 credits, Vegas 1 more time, and I might get to Belmont Park for Giant Dipper.

My season was not as good as it looked like it would be at the beginning of the year, but there is always next year.
Six Flags Great America 10+
Six flags St. Louis
Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
Xtreme Descent
11-02-2008, 02:25 PM
I had fun during my season. I got to visit SFMM for my first time! :D
Knott's Berry Farm x8
Six Flags Magic Mountain x2
I might be visiting KBF 1-2 more times before the end of 08.
SFGADV x1 - 3 New Credits
Kennywood x1 - 5 New Credits
Dorney x1
Nothing spectacular numbers wise but great quality all around for the new credits.
I don't believe I rode any new coasters this season.
But I certainly can't say I'm unhappy with my season, interesting.

The feelings towards my season this year is mutual. I really don't know if i should love it or hate it. I went to Cedar Point 8 times i believe, once during halloweekends which to me is always a good time :)
I also got to go to Michigan's Adventure and ride Shivering Timbers for my first time, unfortunately it was the only one I got on at the park. :(
The most recent park for me was my first Six Flags park, Six Flags Great America. It was alright, the new rides were great, but it also taught me a few not so great things about Six Flag parks compared to Cedar Fair parks.
The 2008 season isn't over yet though ;)
I still have my trip down to Florida in December for Universal Studios and IOA!

^ Hey, if you're gonna be hitting five parks and CP 8 times, that's a good season...Some uf us have never even seen CP. :( lol
My season is pretty much:
SFDK once
KBF once for Scary Farm
SFMM around three times
SFGAdv once
Coney Island's Astroland once
So, all in all, a pretty good season for me, lots of new credits. I just wish I could've gotten some coasters on my Brazil trip. :)

Seeing that the season officially came to a close for me (ie not year around parks open), It seemed pretty well. Some of the headlines throughout the year were crazy such as those hotel workers protesting in disney outfits.
If only the economy was better this year, I would feel better about the industry. With Six Flags and Cedar Fair both kind of falling, it does look depressing.
My only two parks for the year were Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (http://www.rcprocommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1139) and California's Great America.
EDIT: I saw the description and it mentioned the amusement industry with museums. I was in Ecuador this summer and went inside the Basilica del voto Nacional (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basílica_del_Voto_Nacional) and the Mitad Del Mundo (Middle of the world) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitad_del_Mundo) which are two of the biggest touring things in Ecuador. I wanted to post a trip report on this but I was afraid this was too irrelevant to a coaster website. I will if anyone wants to see.

Timber Falls - 1 time
