Great article, but I'm confused. Earthquake is still there, right? The preshows were getting old so I'm happy they redid those.

You said you read it, right?

The new attraction is a refurbishment of the past attraction at the park, Earthquake, located in the San Francisco area...

Before the addition of Disaster!, the former Earthquake ride sat in its place.

The attraction began transformation on November 5, 2007...

The inner workings of the former “Earthquake” were stripped in order to accommodate more modern and up-to-date features to suit the technological day and age of the new millennium.

Just checking, cause you said you did....

Nice article! Very informative. I actually had no idea they were doing this... but it definitely seems like an awesome attraction! It'll be really neat to be filmed, and then for everyone else to see it! It seems Earthquake is the same ride, just the preshows are different. :)

Considering that Mummy was the replacement for King Kong, I think they made a brilliant decision.

The mummy could have gone else where.... They both are awesome rides...

The Mummy sits in King Kong's building because it (at the time) was the largest sound stage on the Universal property that could accommodate such a ride. Earthquake's is more in an "elbow" shape, and was specially constructed for the ride. Just to give you an idea of why King Kong was used, take a look at some of these calculations I was doing.

Considering that the Boardwalk Bullet (which everybody is familiar with) sits on a 1.1 acre parcel of land:

Mummy's sound stage is 70,131 square feet of space and is 55 feet 8 inches tall. That gives you an overall volume of 3,906,297 cubed feet, which equates to roughly 1.61 acres of lateral feet squared and 55.7 vertical feet. Considering a standard football field is roughly 1 acre of land, Mummy's ride building encompasses all of that, plus an additional 61 percent of a football field. This gave designers enough room to meet the goals of what they wanted the ride to do. It also allowed for Premier to come up with a challenging track configuration that could accommodate high speeds of up to 45 miles per hour...

If thats not a good enough reason as to why King Kong was chosen for the swap of Mummy, I don't know what else to tell you...

I really just miss kongfrontation, and think instead of completely removing the rides they could of done something else to it, and the mummy...

Just as I was reading this, Bring It On was on my television and in the movie they were in Universal. Coincidence. But anyways I'm glad they updated this as Earthquake when I went on it a couple years ago was showing that it was outdated. Glad they fixed it up and made it more up to date because it was a pretty boring ride.
