Time Warner & Sunset Farms purchases remaining land around Great Salt Lake
UTAH. Officials of both Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) Sunset Farms (NYSE: SUF) met today with city officials to finalize a deal where Time Warner and Sunset Farms would acquire the the rest of the site where the former Evergreen Heights county fair once stood. Located on the shores of Salt Lake, the deal is expected to close between 400 - 500 million
"We plan to develop a better tourist attraction here in Utah to better complement and develop our perception as a family vacation destination, not just a chained owned Theme Park" remarked Goliath255 president of Sunset Farms, who formed a partnership with Angus Wynne when he owned the Six Flags parks during the 1960's
"Many may ask, why are we acquiring the former county fair properties? That is simple. Hindsight is everything. It is obvious now that the city officials here in Utah had no business plan or any idea how to fully maximize the value of the remaining land, so they left it to rot. We know now that it was a bad decision, not just for our partnership, but for Utah as a whole." Said Gary Keith, General Manager of Six Flags Sunset Heights in Utah - Soon to be the largest operating Six Flags in the partnership chain.
Along with the acquirement announcement came another that made the land purchase make sense. "We would like to announce the future plans for Six Flags Sunset Heights that will include a new hotel in deserted camp grounds(left), and a water park in abandoned Sea life area(bottom).
The new resort will house 5,000 guest rooms and 5 million square feet of convention and meeting space. It will also include the 100 acre water park and aquarium
"This is a booming vacation market, it is really starting to catch on as a convention getaway as well, so it makes perfect sense for us to be here." Said Time Warner CEO Steve Ross. Many spoke of competition between Six Flags Sunset Heights and the areas family fun centers, in Utah, just miles away. Ross responded: "The resorts will really feed two different niches. Family Vacations, and convention events, for lack a better term. Different companies want different things, some want their employees to bring their families for a good time, in a booming vacation market, and others want city conventions, where all the services are nearby."
Changes began to take effect around the park to link all three sites to become a future resort. Below are overviews of the newly acquired land, courtesy of Sunset Farms and Six Flags Sunset Heights

awesome park...I love the twist, It's so low to the ground. One suggestion though, if you dont mind using trainers, use the 8 cars trainer to make the waterfall over that one coaster's track complete. Unless you're one of those people that don't use trainers.

Overall, I like the general 'vibe' of the park, however in some screens it looks like you are 'overdoing' your vegetation and landscaping.
Also, your replication of Drachen Fire doesn't look too bad. It is hard to replicate that great ride, and it's looking alright, but please, at least attempt the right type of footers for the lift hill...those made the lift look spectacular. :)

Steve K (http://www.rollercoasterpro.com/community/member.php?u=1) - I will see what I can do about the vegetation in parts of the park. I was gonna use the right type of footers, but those aren't that great at hiding things from the public.

Latest Rumors/Current Happenings - The Boardwalk Bullet, and the Grizzly/BigFoot Racers will be retracted in the next 3-6 months because of the amount of punishment the wood has taken from the pounding rain. Construction at 2 of the 3 sites have come to a stand still as rain has been really heavy in the area this season. Desperado has closed earlier for the rest of the season because of unstable land conditions. And the Tazzmania mine ride has closed down due to flooding in its underground tunnels. The construction of the 7500 car parking structure has halted, as well as most of the construction in the Hotel area.

After this season, it will be removed completely because of operation costs, and the unstable island that houses half of the ride. No word on the replacement.

Sunset Farms Buys remaining stake on Sunset Heights, and Sunset Lake
April 1, 1998
Sunset Farms (NYSE: SUF) has finalized a definite agreement with Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) to buy the remaining 50% of Six Flags Sunset Heights, the largest theme park in Utah, and Six Flags Sunset Lake, the largest theme park Virgina for $600 million from Time Warner and Boston Ventures.
As part of the transaction, the companies will enter into a long-term licensing agreement that gives Sunset Farms the exclusive theme park rights in the U.S. and Canada for all Warner Bros. and DC Comics, animated cartoon and comic book characters.
The transaction is expected to close in the next two months.
New platform: "With our single business focus, proven operating expertise and the combined strengths of the Six Flags and Looney Toons brands, we believe this transaction gives us an excellent platform for generating superior growth throughout our new and existing franchise," says Goliath255, current president of Sunset Farms.
Prior to the acquisition, Sunset Farms owned 50% of both Six Flags Sunset Heights, and Sunset Lake with combined revenues of approx. $250 million each year.
A look in the Future: "Over the past two years we have been able to expand these parks with additions such as Viper opening this year at Sunset Lake, and Looney Toon's Great Escape at Sunset Heights. The current plan for these two parks are in place, with a Vertical Drop, and Desperado's Revenge both planned to open at the start of the millennium."
Note: Park Updates will be slow until the end of November because of College Apps.

Not bad, not bad. I like it alot and it looks great. Those new trains look very good! Your park attendance is'nt bad either due to the prices. Those are as low as Cedar Points prices. That's the one thing that I have noticed over the years and northern parks cost less than southern but thats off topic lol. But anyway, very nice job and keep the updates coming bro!

I made a ride similar to this in a park of mine not shown here, and at first I had it red and white like that. Then I changed it to gray supports, and I thought it looked much better. Maybe you should consider it, too. :) It just seems like too much white, unless it's in the 'white' area of the park...

I suggest a fresco-ish wall for that, to keep with the original style of the RipTides.

I'm not too sure about what's inside that wall thing on the right side of the last pic, but I guess we'll see that later, in addition to the helis and that coaster. :)
I agree about Rip Tide though. I think you should make the backdrop of it either the brick you used in the queue or that tan wall that came with the game. :)
I really like it though (as always). :)

That does look better than your old stuff. However, there are a few to many doors, unless it's a theatre or something, they look a little redundant. Same with the second floor windows. A little variation would help.
I also think it would be wise of you do try and move away from the overuse of certain trims. I've noticed it can get a little abusive in some of your projects.

I love the Crystal Beach Cyclone remake. :wink2: Overall, I think it's really good! The detail is superb, as always. Just two little suggestions in the second screen. One, maybe add some trees at the top of the water ride mountain, to the left of the track, above the walkway there. It looks kinda bare. Also, I think you should remove all of the wooden slanted supports on the lower half of the observation tower. It just makes it look cluttered a bit.
Very good though, as always!

That was such an awesome ride. Hopefully the replacement for it will be good enough to make up for it's loss. Either way, I'm looking forward to the future of the park.

It makes me question what's going to happen with this park...

I know some of you will be disappointed with the replacement, but it was needed to help revitalize the area. As for a possible release date, my goal right now is to release this baby on July 17th which will mark the 2 year anniversary of this project. Expect a update this weekend. Any more questions?
Maybe it will be the Dark Knight from SFNE.
Whatever it is, I'm sure it will pale in comparison to the rest of the park. Looking forward to the release. :D

I'd like to see some more views of the entrance as it looks spectacular.
The Storm Runner
05-26-2008, 06:16 PM
Beautiful!! I love that entranceway. DCA?
Those gardens look really nice. I especially love all the jumping fountains surrounding the monorail.
I really love the third pic. I love how it comes out of the building in a Desperado fashion. It reminds me of Bigfoot.
4th screen looks fantabulous, a nice B&M. Hmm, the ascending track has no chain, until you get to the top. Block purposes I assume. Wow. If you're going that fast over the top, that must be a ton of air! And then going underground...:w00t: Heli ride looks cool, too. I have yet to understand those wooden things yet though.
Everything looks spectacular.
Your losing the Six Flags atmosphere.
rollercoasterfreak91

That's just amazing, I love how the steel coaster looks like a woodie. The only thing I would fix is to reamove those jumping fountains in the second screen. Too many little green ugly boxes. The entrance plaza is amazing.

Sorry I haven't read the whole topic, just the recent update, but as nin says, the recent update doesn't scream 'Six Flags'. But then at the end of your post, you said 'Not owned by Six Flags'... So I'm a bit confused on that front at the mo.

cdp123 (http://www.rollercoasterpro.com/community/member.php?u=313) - Perhaps. That might actually be the best angle you will see the actual entrance.
The Storm Runner (http://www.rollercoasterpro.com/community/member.php?u=10) - Yep, the entrance is dca inspired.

But my reason for keeping them was that if i can change the color of them you wouldn't see them, and they wouldn;t no noticeable to an actual peep.
eyeamthu1 (http://www.rollercoasterpro.com/community/member.php?u=77)-nin (http://www.rollercoasterpro.com/community/member.php?u=75) - This park is not owned by Six Flags; it is owned by Sunset Farm. Sunset Farm is a private company that started with farms in Sunset Lake.

Thats what he said. Tokyo Disneyland Resort, while owned by the Oriental Land Company, uses the Disney name and their themes. Thus, Oriental Land Company pays Disney to use their likenesses in TDL.
Same thing at Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. While Cedar Fair rents the space to Hilton Hotels, Cedar Fair pays Paramount Pictures to use the Star Trek name and likeness.

I don't know how, but you are probably the only person I know who can have a building where pretty much every wall piece has a window, and it doesn't look bad. Is there suppose to be the Spanish beige roof on top there extending into the left part of the building? Hmm, I can't remember the last time I saw a park with jet skis haha. I agree with chris: it'll win something. :)
By the way, the whole concept of a neutral color + brightly colored accessories, sound like someone you know? ;) Haha
The roof is looking seriously.. "flat" with that white texture. Maybe make it black? Or change the texture of the roof?
Alos, you may want to change the land texture under the water to give it some "depth". Or even just change the texture under the walkway to give somewhat of a shadow effect in the water.
All in all, it's looking really great.

How do you keep all those guests happy with double-wide path? They always get upset and leave... The fact that you can have that kind of capacity (And fill it!) on so many rides, while having one of the most beautiful parks ever is just fantastic. Keep up the great work!

Wow, I never realized how well the heartline coaster and the dinghy slide could overlap. It looks really good as always. The only thing I don't really care for is the color of the slide. You have the nice brown and green jungle theme going, and then the slide is strangely just there, white and blue, like any Ultra Twister. I think if the colors were different, like used the colors brown, green, yellow, or the faded red, it would look much better in my opinion.
By the way, wasn't Logger's Revenge the name of the pre-made log flume in the first RCT? lol

Absolutely Amazing Park! After seeing only 3 or 4 screens I was very impressed by how this park was made. Great job and keep up the good work!

Why do you suppose he will release his park now that it's technically September?
Hooray similarities with Victoria Gardens! :) Everything looks great as usual. I have a question, though. In the pic of the queue line posted August 26th, the building near the top of the pic has brick walls down by the queue at various points. I especially love that, and I must ask, what color did you make the building block that 3D-ifies that portion of the wall? That beige/cream color?
I believe the set of clay-ish walls he uses for the arches and windows have actual thickness, and that is the wall itself not a building block. The brick base is just placed in front of that wall.

Goliath255 will post updates, and when the time comes, Sunset Resort when he is ready. As Michael stated at the top of this page, please calm down and learn to be patient.

Dude, look, Michael, myself and Chris have already advised you to be patient about the park. Please, this is the last time i'm going to tell you. Be patient and wait like everyone else is.
Obviously Goliath is busy with Winter Showdown so he doesn't have time to work on this as well. Obviously he would have posted an update by now if he wanted to but he hasn't. He will continue posting updates when he wants to.
My suggestion to you Night Trapper is this; For the sake of your head, if you need to see this park so badly, please PM Goliath225 and take it from there.

Awesome as usual. I love stations like that, and I'm always a fan of your western style. My only concern is the barrels at the tippy top there. Is this like Niagara Falls? lol jk but it does appear like they would roll into the river, over the falls, then down the river into the lake. Oh, and I'm a little leery about the whiteness of your flowers. awesome as always though :)

Lol you have a panda entertainer at the top. That made me laugh. And don't you just love it when people all gather in one part of the top and get really lost and confused? Happens to me, too. One thing, why is the one path at the top a lighter brown than the rest of the paths? And wow, 471! I thought I had spent a lot of time in my park haha. You're over twice as far lol.

The park rating is going down, so probably not before the New Year.

12-13-2009, 02:48 PM
Might just be me and my lack of expertise with this game, but i've always had troubles keeping the rating up in a huge and somewhat realistic and detailed park. Could imagine he's going to have loads of trouble if he wants it to rocket.

I find whenever I'm building a big, peep-friendly park (like this or EI), I have two options whenever I want to focus on building something:
1. Close the park, empty the peeps, and then build. Then once done with a section, reopen the park and see how the guests respond. This is how EI's gotten well over 100,000 admissions to the park.
2. Disregard the peeps and build something anyway. It saves having to close and reopen the entire park, but at the same time if you forget about the peeps long enough, they get lost, puke too much, and the park rating goes down.
I'm guessing Goliath did the 2nd one. :)
