I know this is a tad off but I wanted to get this out of my system and post it already.

I recently saw that Silverwood will be holding Job Fairs on the 8th and 15th of this month. I'll be heading out to the park on one of these days. I'll try to get as many photos of inside the park as I can, as well as any Deja Vu photos I can swing, permitting it's location and if any of it's components are at the park yet or not.

Are there any photos in particular anyone wants me to get while I'm there?

I'll tell ya right now, make sure you call the park because most parks will not hire under 16. You need to be 16 to work there. When you turn 16, then you can go ahead and apply. Why do you think I am not working UOR yet ;)

Jake

^ That's actually not true at all. It varies from state to state, in Idaho I believe you only need to be 14 or 15. Magic Mountain will hire at 15, and I believe Knott's will as well. So while that may be the rule for Florida, it certainly isn't a nationwide thing.

Silverwood hires at 14, I'm 15 and will be 16 this May, the month the park opens...

Q: "How old do you have to be to work at Silverwood?"

A: You must be at least 14 years old to work at Silverwood. Some positions have other age requirements. See department /job descriptions for individual requirements.

I also may be heading out to Silverwood on Wedensday since I have no school that day.

Knott's you must be 16 by the way. I can almost swear I have seen like 13 year olds working at SFMM when they did all the pay cuts, but it may just be me.

Good luck Brandon!

Hey guys. I didnt head out today because yesterday I suffered a major concussion at school. I will not be going to the job fair on the 8th as a result of this, so that leaves the 15th open. There is a chance that I will not be able to go on the 15th as well, but in the event of this, it is out of my control.

Deja Vu Track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dMBgZ2JWs)
Silverwood Theme Park Marquee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dMBgZ2JWs)

I apologise for the limited, blury photos of Deja Vu, but it was very dark out, and I did not want to trespass on private property (there was a sign clearly stating anything past said sign was trespassing). I will be able to get many more, better quality photos on the 15th when I go back to the park for the job fair, as well as photos from inside the park.

Thanks for reading! Be sure to join me back at Silverwood on the 15th!

Very nice update! I can't believe how many open gates there were, but I guess they figure that there really shouldn't be anybody there that shouldn't be there during the off season. I wonder if they are going to paint DejaVu, or if they will just leave the colors the same? I know on the website, they showed a picture of it with the same colors...

^Deja Vu will be repainted. It will be in Silverwood's best intrest to. I'm assuming that the park is waiting on the rest of the track & supports, as well as the naming contest winner to be announced.

Brandon
03-09-2008, 11:31 PM
I love how everytime I make a post, it seems like everyone has to disect the small things I say...

Dan, it would be in the parks best intrest to repaint Deja Vu for a variety of reasons. One good reason is that it would look out of place for the park, and especally where it will be going. It wont look good on the eyes compared to how the rest of the park looks.

And Jake, the park didnt announce it, but I didnt think that they would need to announce something pretty obvious. I doubt that the park would leave the paint scheme the way it is.

Jake
03-09-2008, 11:37 PM
^ Because you make statements without any backing except your own expectations?

As I said, you don't know for sure. Although it is possible that they will repaint it, there is nothing to be seen that would lead us to believe that. To be honest, I don't think it would matter much if they left the paint scheme the same.

I was talking about the threads I make... Not single posts.

I'll get to the bottom of this whole repainted or not repainted discussion on the 15th when I have a chance to talk with some people, associated with the park who actually know something.

Anyway, the park spent a fortune (relative to their budget) on this, and paint is expensive. So is it really worth it for them to pay all that extra money? After all, the park has about a 99% local appeal. Not many people travel too far for Silverwood.

From photos and what I saw personally, most of the buildings, attractions, and ectera (minus the water park and the kiddie area), the entire park follows a color scheme and theme that of a rustic, mountain logging town. How exactly lime green and bright blue fit in there I have no idea. The brightest attraction (again minus the kiddie area and water park) would be Corkscrew, and thats it's darkish yellow supports and red trains.

Again as I said, on the 15th I will find out for myself from someone who actually knows whats going on...

I actually agree with Brandon, I think a new paintjob will be needed, due to Silverwood's theming, but thats just my opinion.

Corkscrews' supports are rather a vibrant yellow from the pictures on RCDB. And I think that a more vibrant paint scheme could do good for this park. As of right now the park seems very dank and drab, as far as the coaster schemes go. It would be good to get some color in there.

Brandon

The photos on RCDB date back to 2001. The park repainted Corkscrew sometime after 2001 to dark blue and darkish yellow.

I dont know how well the park would look if it recieved a total facelift, with brighter colors, as in my opinion, the park blends in very nicely with it's surrounding area.

'Scuse the double post, but I have a update for ya'll, not from Silverwood, but from my school.

Silverwood higher-ups were at my school today handing out applications, flyers candy, pens, ect at lunch. They had a certain Deja Vu flyer that I thought you all should see. Slogan look familiar to any of you?
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s141/CaliCoaster/Deja%20Vu%20-%20Silverwood%20Theme%20Park%20Updates/dejavusilverwoodflyer-1-1.jpg

"You Are Here"? Am I wrong or hasnt Six Flags used this slogan before?

Also, I have some news reguarding the whole repaint or no repaint issue. While talking with Derrick Peardle, Head of Operations, he told me that Silverwood has plans to repaint Deja Vu, but it depends on some things. One, it depends on the name of the coaster. Two, Vekoma will be coming in to do some work on Deja, to ensure that Silverwood doesnt encounter the problems Six Flags had with it, and three, Six Flags will be sending people out to Silverwood to train our operators on how to properly operate Deja Vu, how to properly handle a miscatch or valley, and ectera. So, if the repaint does not happen this season, it will happen either next season, or it will be repainted inbetween this season and next. In the end, I suppose it all boils down to time constraints.

So, theres some official information that I got from Silverwood's higher-ups. I'll try to get some more information on Saturday.

That's great how Vekoma is coming out to work on it, why didn't they do that with them when Six Flags was having problems with them? Are they planning on doing it for SFMM's? And that poster, really SUCKS. Six Flags did it way better.

Dan

I wonder what the name will be...

I'm not sure I am allowed to say where I will be working (employee handbook is a tad confusing at times), however, I can say that wont be elegible to be a op until after May 21st (my birthday).

Thank you very much for the compliment!

Call me crazy, but does that track already look repainted?

Brandon
03-16-2008, 03:46 PM
^ I noticed that as well Michael but since I havent heard anything, I didnt want to say anything. This may sound crazy, but, I dont think it has been repainted; Rather, it could just be the surrounding area's colors contrasting with Deja's paint scheme, as well as the sunlight hitting the track. Who knows though. Anything is possible.

If it has been repainted already, it was deffinately repainted at SFGA, although I doubt that it would have been repainted pre-transport. Anyone near SFGA know anything about a possible repaint before it was transported out here?

Luxornv
03-16-2008, 04:03 PM
I don't think it would have been repainted at SFGAm. It just doesn't make sense to me that they would repaint the ride before it's going to be transported somewhere. I'll have to drive by SFGAm later this week, so I'll see what I can find out.

^Indeed. I'm sure that if I were still in Victorville, I wouldnt have a job at DLR or KBF due to the distance. Half of my paycheck would have been going to gas...

I thought that I would put this little info out. When I was out at the park yesterday, I noticed that Tremors was getting retracked. I only saw one section of the course being retracked, that being this section. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/3807/tremorsretracingsi0.png
I didnt take my camera unfortunately so no photos. I couldnt tell if other parts of Tremors were being retracked but from I could tell, if they havent already, they are going to. I'll try to find out more what parts of Tremors got retracked, or are going to be retracked. If the whole coaster, or most of it, is getting retracked, it should prove to offer smoother rides for the whole 2008 season. Hopefully they are not retracking this one section only, but I wont hold my breath.

Brandon

But why didn't you?

Because I was only going to the park to sign some paperwork at HR (Human Resources). Even if I did bring it, I wouldnt have been able to get any photos you havent seen already anyway, since where I was was in a backstage, employee only area. Posting photos from that area here on RCPro can get me fired. It's also against the rules to post unauthorized backstage park photos on most websites. I respect that rule, so I wont do it here either.

Where are pictures of the *good* rides? ;)

Well, the farthest I've been inside the park is to the Merlin's Magic Theater for the Job Fair, so I doubt you'll be seeing any in-park photos of rides such as Tremors, Timber Terror, Thunder Canyon and Panic Plunge until next month at the earliest.

I wasnt able to get any pics today, as they were doing work on Brunner Rd and in the employee parking lot, so the only area I was able to get some pics of Aftershock was near the Human Resources office. However, because that is in a backstage area, taking a photo back there, and then posting it here would be against park policy. So, I decided against taking any pics today. I'll try to get some pics the next time I'm out there for training.

Thought I had a cash handling class yesterday, but it turns out Human Resources is swamped with the scheduling that they called me in when there wasnt even a cash handling class yesterday. Well, it wasnt a wasted trip, as I had to exchange my pants and belt that are part of my uniform and had to pick up my nametag. And also, this trip gave me a chance to go get a Aftershock update, as Brunner Rd was reopened.

^Turns out that each coaster at the park (excluding Tiny Toot and Aftershock) actually can run two trains. The reason why they dont is because Tremors, Timber Terror, and Corkscrew dont have computer systems, therefore are incapable of running two train operations.

I didnt feel like taking photos of what youve already seen, because out of all the new photos I would have taken, I would have only taken about, three. So instead, I took a video of the entire staging area.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88tPcWdDjZM

It kinda gives you a good idea on just how much of an area the track, supports and other coaster components encompases while dissasembled.

Also, just to fill everyone in, it looked like all of the footers are finished, so it looks like Aftershock is ready to start going vertical here real soon. :)

^ That would be cool, but it would take a huge alteration to the ride system and the track, and I'm willing to bet that wont be happening for Aftershock.

Alright, I'll be at the park tomorrow for the Dry Run Day (Employees, Friends & Family Day) from about 9:30 to at least 7. I'm scheduled to work from 10 to 3, and the park closes at 5, so that will give me a good 2 hours to get a few rides in on a few rides.

Since the park will only be open to employees and their friends & families, the park shouldnt be exactly "crowded." According to the Weather Channel, it's supposed to rain sometime tomorrow, which may help reduce crowds. I'll try to get any pics I can after my shift.

Expect *at least* a Tremors ride review tomorrow night.

Tremors' train ascends into airtime heaven as well after it's first drop into the ground

So Tremors was the first thing I hit after getting off from work.

I took the front row. The line moved very quickly for the coaster only having one train. The quick dispatch times here at Silverwood really help. I got into the snug and comfortable PTC train, fastened my seatbelt, and puled down on the lap bar. I have to be honest, it felt so good sitting in a coaster train after not being in one for 10 months.

We were dispatched, and started climbing the lift hill. You dont get much time to survey the landscape around you, as the lift is fairly fast.

Once you reach the top, you dip down and enter a swooping upward curve to the left. Once reaching the end of this left turn, you crest the first drop, and finally start going down. At the top of the first drop, all you see in your immediate future is blackness. Just a small hole in the ground. The train quickly speeds into the tunnel, going underground, and shooting out of the coaster's gift shop.

Once after shooting out of the gift shop, you hit a extremely small airtime hill over a pathway (see above picture), offering so much airtime. You then quickly go underground yet again, and are thrust back into the sunlight. You then enter the ride's huge warped helix, if you can call it a helix. This part of the ride is extremely forceful, and fun.

After exiting the helix, you dip down and see a sign to your left. It says "DANGER! BRIDGE OUT!" A nice touch of theming there, but what bridge? You soon find this out when you zoom full speed towards a section of track. Just before you hit the train dives under, barely missing the track. I have to say, by this time, my hands were not up anymore!

After diving under, you take a upward sweeping right turn and get a nice amount of airtime upon traversing the section of theack you just dived under.

After this hill, you hit two more airtime filled hills, take a small turn to the left, and dive back into the ground again. Yet again, the coaster is thrust out into the outside, but only for 1 second, before diving back into the ground. This is madness at it's best.

You then emerge from the ground for a final time, charging full speed for the first drop. After barely missing it, you take a turn to the right into the brake run.

After finally coming to a stop, I knew just why this middle of nowhere Idaho woodie is in the World's Top 10 Woodie list. The ride is very smooth, has many headchoppers, great theming (using pretty much only wood to theme with), a great movie franchise to use to it's advantage, and the airtime is extrodinary. If you can, come to Idaho to ride Tremors. You wont regret it.

Tremors' exit... Judging by that sign there on the right, I suppose a accident happened a few years ago on Tremors lol

2nd Corkscrew

So, here's my ride review of the original KBF Corkscrew. And I'm being dead serious when I say this too.

The original KBF Corkscrew is smoother and funner than the Vekoma Boomerang KBF replaced it with.

After riding Corkscrew, I rode Super Roundup, which is like any other Roundup ride, fun.

And after than, I rode Timber Terror once in the front. I have to say, for a small coaster, this coaster sure does offer some great airtime, and some good speed as well.

After Timber Terror, I decided to ride Tremors again, but this time in the last row. I deffinately was not expecting the wild, and extrememly different ride in the back, compared to the front.

Was getting hungry, decided to eat (Got the Number 2)... Maverick Combo eh?

After getting my food, it was announced over the parkwide PA system that the park was having a complete park emergency evacuation drill. This was at about 4:45, and the park was scheduled to close at 5. All of the employees knew about this ahead of time, but most of us didnt know they would do it that soon.

After the evac was over, Silverwood let all of the employees with their ID cards back into the park so we could go do whatever we needed to do backstage.

While waiting for my ride, boredom got the best of me in the break room...

Well, the fact that Tremors doesnt beat you up, in the front or the back, says a lot compared to Ghostrider. The experience is just so much more, how should I say this, thrilling, compared to Ghostrider's.

Oh, one other thing about Tremors that I didnt mention in my PTR is this: Tremors made it to be #1 in my Top 5. I'm not sure if that says a lot about the ride, but it says something I'm sure.

I didnt say much about Timber Terror because I only was able to get in one ride, and I'd rather wait to get another ride or two in on it before I make a more through review. This is just personal prefrence because the ride is fairly short.

Thank you so very much for the compliments! :)

I was mostly wondering if the intensity of Timber Terror compares to that of Ghostriders. Ghostrider offers a very intense ride, it just so happens that it beats the crap out of you during the process.. ;).

You mean Tremors? Timber Terror isnt all that intense at all, but it still offers good airtime.

Now if you mean Tremors, Tremors' intensity far exceeds Ghostriders, without beating riders up. I think all of the visual stuff Silverwood uses for Tremors (tunnels, headchopprs, near misses, theming, ect) amps up that intensity factor, but isnt the cause of it being more intense than Ghostrider. If Silverwood took away all of the other stuff I mentioned, Tremors would still be just as intense as Ghostrider, if not more.

Brandon, how far is the park from where you live? I'd talk to management about setting up a complementary shuttle (or five bucks or something) if it isn't too far, as it seems like they would get a lot more business. Take a poll among your friends and ask who would go more if they had a ride set up, and show that to someone important. Seems like a good idea to me.

I live only about 19 to 25 minutes from the park, depending what route I take, how fast I drive, and how many red or green lights I hit.

I believe there are complementary shuttles to the park, but it's only if you get a package deal at one of the nearby hotels.

You are right, that is a great idea. I'll see what I can do about a poll, and if that is successful, I'll pass it onto management, or even Gary himself. He enjoys hearing feedback and ideas from employees so with any luck, this little idea may reach him.

Thanks!

Where else can you see a sight like this?

I decided to split at around 3:30 after seeing Tremors & Timber Terror's queues out their queues. Besides, it was hot, the park's capacity wasnt getting smaller, and the whole situation got borderline lame. If anyone would like higher quality versions of the photos I took today, ask and you shall recieve :cool1:.

I took a good number of videos yesterday as well. If you would like to see those videos, check my YouTube account.

Wow Deja...I mean Aftershock looks absolutely massive in this park. At SFGAM, it looked tall, but nowhere near as large as it does at Silverwood. While it is great for Silverwood to get a new coaster, I think they should have painted it a different color as it seems out of place with its current colors.(and because of the size. If it was painted something like Firehawk, then it might look better.

Just and FYI, all of DeJa Vu is gone from SFGAm. Everything that was left of the supports and other stuff is either at Silverwood or in transit. Supports were there on Sunday, but the employee parking lot was empty. Soon you will have everything for a complete coaster. Now if only you can learn how to operate it ;)

Brandon
05-27-2008, 02:23 PM
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. They are much appreciated. :)

I was at the park on Sunday and they were just getting started on the supports for the 1st tower. They were also doing some things with the wires for the winch, not sure what exactly though.

Batman07, from what I have heard from some higher ups at Silverwood, we are going to be flying in some higher up from SFGAm's rides department and lodging him at a hotel for about a month. He will be training the rides department for operating Aftershock, as well as training us in e-stop scenarios and other scenarios the GIB's have gone through.

In addition to that, once the track is complete, Vekoma should be arriving around the same time in order to begin work on installing Aftershock's new systems.

The power plant which will be built across the street from Aftershock still has not gone vertical yet, but I hear it should be going vertical soon.

There still is no word yet on the approximate opening date for Aftershock, and there are increasing rumors among employees that the ride will not open until August. More word on it's opening date as info comes in.

Aside from that, on Sunday I finally rode Panic Plunge and I must say, that is one amazing drop tower. I wasnt expecting the drop to be so sudden.

Another first for me that day was Timber Terror in the last row. All I have to say is "wow". The airtime back there is just so extreme. It was unlike any airtime I have ever experienced. It's just so amazing how different the front and back can be on TT.

Didnt take my camera today, and I'm bummed that I didnt. The first lift for the most part is completely done. All that is needed to be added is the winch at the top.

From the looks of it, Aftershock's station wont be a carbon copy of the other GIB stations. Rockwork has started to take place for the station walls, and the queue ramp has already been completed, complete with rope posts.

The train has been moved under the first lift, awaiting to be taken out of the transport container and placed onto the track.

Thats all for today. I'll be working 3 days straight starting the 11th, so expect some updates coming.

Not many captions for this one, pretty much just a brief intro and onto the pics.

Drove into work today to see the final piece of track in place (on the 2nd tower) for Aftershock. As I was at Corkscrew operating, I got a great view of the installation. From what I understand, the top winch should be installed either tomorrow or on Friday. The station's frame is already in place. I suppose we will be getting the standard GIB station after all, but with some kind of earthquake theming, possibly similar to that of Tremors' station.

Onto the photos!

Are they already landscaping and placing the queue?

Well, from what I could see, the only part of the queue that is ready is the concrete ramp going up to the station. Other than that, I have no clue. I havent been working in that part of the park lately, and it's hard to see from the side road I take to get to the employee road.

As for landscaping, by the look of those trees close to the site, it's looking like they are getting ready for that phase. I'm assuming landscaping will start once most of the heavy construction equipment (cranes, trucks, ect) are moved out of the construction zone and more work is done on the queue.

Based on what space they have, and what direction the queue looks like it is going in now, it looks like part of the queue will be right under the two towers. I'm not 100% sure on that though. Hopefully I'm over in that area of the park tomorrow so I can get a better look at everything.

Correct, cookie to Jake. :)

And thank you. I use a Olympus IR-500. Some of the photos wernt exactly some of my best work. I was messing around with settings on the camera that day, so some photos came out good, others not the best. Another reason for the decrease in quality is Imageshack.

Just wanted to give a quick update of what I saw in the park today.

I was able to get a very good look at [most of] the train today. It's being held in a maintence area which is visible from a guest area. From what I could see and what I have heard, most of the train is already completely refurbished with new parts and all, just a few other cars are left to go for the refurb.

I will be at the park tomorrow all day from opening til closing, and then after closing I'll be at a employee party at Boulder Beach. I MAY bring my camera tomorrow but if I do, dont expect to see many photos. I'll probably just get a few quick pics of Aftershock's train and thats it.

But thats me.. I don't know the park topography.. ect ect.

While I am not exactly sure where the coaster is placed in terms of its property boundaries, one thing to remember is Silverwood owns A LOT of land that could be used for expansion. So while some of the bigger rides they put in may seem a little out of the way right now, when they get bigger the park will become more integrated.

If I understand correctly, however, the coaster is over towards the air strip so I don't know what their plans are.

That is correct. Just to give you guys a understanding of just how much more land we have, Silverwood has more than 300 acres to it's disposal. The park will *eventually* be huge.

If I understand correctly, however, the coaster is over towards the air strip so I don't know what their plans are.
It's right next to Tremors' lift hill and drop, well, at least the towers are. It's somewhat close to the airstrip, but not very.

Alright, sadly, no photos today . They moved the train into a maintenence building where they store the park's locomotive at night. I could of gotten a photo, but it would of been extremely crappy.

One last bit of Aftershock related news... I heard a friend at work telling guests about Aftershock getting all of it's current brakes replaced with magnetic brakes. Maintenence wants the magnetic braking system installed in order to cut down on ride maintenence. Dont quote me on it though, it may just be a rumor going around the Rides Department.

Mag brakes would make sense.

Brandon
06-23-2008, 12:44 PM
Turns out the magnettic brakes was just a rumor. I was talking with someone in maintence and because the brakes are only used for e-stops, and the catch cars essentially work as the brakes during ride cycles, theres no need for installing mag brakes.

I can see why they wouldnt want to spend the money on something that they would only have to use during a e-stop, but mag brakes really sound good going on a coaster with the history Aftershock has. Just personal opinion though...

I have a off day today so I'll be back in the park again. As usual, i'll be taking my camera. Unless I end up hanging out with friends from work, expect a PTR either tonight or tomorrow.

While not the most noticible from ground level, the station is coming along very nicely. Thanks to no roof yet, the view into the station from atop Tremors' lift is a great one.

Very soon these will be back in their rightful place.

So thats all of the photos I snagged today. From what I understand, the wiring is nearly complete. The last major element we are waiting on is new lift cables from Vekoma. And speaking of Vekoma, I've been seeing Gary Norton (the park's owner) flying his helicopter over the park a lot in the past two days, more so than usual. I'm unsure if the people from Vekoma have arrived at the park already or not. I asked around today and some people say yes, some say no. Gary's more frequent flying would hint that they are.

Onto some of the more minor stuff with Aftershock, obviously we still have no station roof. I heard today by a friend that a idea was tossed around about adding bulletproof glass windows to the top of the station for the roof. The only downside to that whole thing would be the fact that the station would be a hotbox for not only guests but operator's as well.

And, according to what I have heard from several people, the reason why we are not installing the evacuation platform under the Cobra Roll is because Vekoma explained to us that the Cobra evac platform would not be necessary with Aftershock. I kind of find that hard to believe, but thats just what I've been told. Lets hope the train never valleys on the cobra...

That was a bit of sarcasm... hence the reason he threw in "magically". There's always going to be a possibility that a train valleys on a track, especially with inverted designs. I'm not sure if the Deja models have ever had valley-ing problems in the middle of the boomerang, but I know Vekoma's sit down model has. That's why its mind boggling that Vekoma would take that sort of convenience out of the ride.

Brandon

What's the explanation then?

I wish I could tell you that explanation, but all I was told is that Vekoma told us we wouldnt need it. I find it strange that they told us this. If I get lucky and get to talking with the guys from Vekoma when they're here, I'll see what I can find out.

Any idea how much rougher it's going to be compared to how it already was?
I'm assuming it will be about the same. The only thing that could possibly reduce the roughness would be the refurbishment of the train, and even then it wont do much.

SFOG's Deja Vu has valleyed in the Cobra before. I'm unsure if the other 3 GIB's have as well, but it would'nt surprise me. I agree that it is a very odd move on Vekoma's part to not have Silverwood install the platform. I find it even stranger that Silverwood is not installing it anyway, considering just how safety concience the park is.

I know SFMM's Deja Vu has valleyed in the cobra roll before. I was talking to an op yesterday, he said that he's had a lot of weird experiences with the ride, and said it's valleyed there before. He also said, I think it was last week or a few weeks ago, that something happened with the catch car on the first lift, and that they had to evacuate the riders. Regarding the roughness of the ride, it wasn't that rough for me yesterday when I rode it. I enjoyed my ride. Although my friends thought otherwise.

It's also nice to see the train has arrived.

Alright, very short update today. Just gonna recap what I saw today.

---------------------------
-Today they began putting the covering over the queue for Aftershock.

-One side of the station has it's roof in place, leaving the other side to be installed.

-Seat padding is yet to be installed on the train. From what I understand, we are going to be installing some temporary black padding until we can recieve the new green seat padding, which should arrive in about 3 weeks. I dont understand the logic of this. If the frame is black, and the seats are yellow, and the restraints are green, why not just leave the seat padding black? That would look nicer than green padding. Thats my opinion though... Also, considering that new green padding has been ordered, it sounds as if the green and blue scheme may be here to stay for a while.

-It appears that in front of the Cobra Roll, there is a garden beginning to be put in. I'm unsure if this is true or not. I havent heard anything regarding a garden. For all I know, the flowers, trees and other plants may be for the Aftershock plaza area.
---------------------------

Alright, now thats out of the way, I have two photos and thats it for Aftershock.

So today (yesterday technically), testing began on the catch cars. I didnt actually see the catch car moving on Tower 2, but I did watch it moving on Tower 1. From the looks and sounds of it, Aftershock is extremely close to being able to open to riders. What I do not understand though is that if we are this close to a opening, why has none of the runner up's, or the winner (FeelTheFORCE on TPR) of the naming contest not been contacted yet? Anyone have their thoughts on that, because I have none.

JD71

My guess: They still have no idea when its opening. Why talk to the people they're gonna have ride it when they don't even know when they'll be ready for them?

My guess: They still have no idea when its opening. Why talk to the people they're gonna have ride it when they don't even know when they'll be ready for them?

Well, according to FeelTheFORCE, Silverwood claimed that they would be in contact with him once the ride is close to (within a few weeks of) the opening, which would be in a few weeks. This is considering the fact that everything is complete enough to the point that they can start testing.

Jake
07-13-2008, 10:35 AM
Yes, but you don't really know that it will be ready to open in a few weeks. That baby probably has to log a decent number of testing hours before it's ready for riders. Silverwood also might want to run it for a good long while so that they can catch, and fix any glitches they may/will come across.

And has that guy from Vekoma even come out yet?

Well, it did indeed run it's first test cycle tonight, however, it did miscatch on Tower 2. You may be thinking that this is a bad sign? Think again. :) They are starting the miscatch testing, which should go on until some new part is installed, then it can begin normal testing.

I was able to grab a video of the forced miscatch, which I will upload to YouTube ASAP, and I will try to post my PTR from today sometime tonight, but it's more likely that I will post the full PTR tomorrow when I'm fresh and not tired.

So as I was turning the corner walking to Timber Terror, I saw Aftershock's train zipping up Tower 1. I quickly got my camera out, but due to the battery being low, it started up slowly. Unfortunately, I was only able to capture a small part of Aftershock's first test run.

During the test run, the train caught to the catch car on Tower 2, however it manually released from the catch car, via the station (New feature from Vekoma?), prompting a obvious valley into the e-brakes. This was done on purpose, in order to test the sensors and find out where exactly the train will catch on the tower.

The opening was on July 21st. I was there for the opening, and was on the first public ride (naming contest winners got VIP ERT, therefore their rides did not count as public rides). I grabbed a bunch of photos and videos on the 21st and 22nd. I will have these photos up ASAP, as well as photos from August 11th.

So I found out about Aftershock's opening the night before, and knew I had to go, not only to get my rides in, but to cover opening day. I was hoping RCPro would be up by the time I got home, however, this was not the case. :(

Anyways, onto the photos!

Driving towards Silverwood on US-95, the skyline has been altered significantly. Gone are the landmark towering woodies everyone points to, now is the massive green monster everyone flocks to.

Aftershock's ride restriction sign. Yes, that does say Minimum 47" and Maximum 80". The 47 however was a accident, and was changed the next day to 48 inches. For those wondering, although Six Flags uses a stricter height restriction, Silverwood obtained the permission by Vekoma to make the height restriction for Aftershock more lenient.

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/8964/p7220013vg8.jpg
While waiting outside of Aftershock's courtyard at the front of the area rope, I managed to snag some photos during the 2 hour VIP ERT.

Yet another Aftershock - Tremors size compairison

So after waiting for more than 2 hours, the rope dropped and we were let into the new courtyard, and directed up to Aftershock's queue. I was lucky enough to get on the very first public train for Aftershock. I sat in seat 2A (Car 2, Left inner seat) with the family that owns Silverwood Theme Park, the Nortons.

I noticed that although everyone was new to the ride, the dispatch times were very good. The only thing that irratated me (and still does when I run line control) is that the guests could not understand the 4 across, V-shaped seating, as well as the 16 airgates for only 8 cars. This slowed things down during the day, but not too much.

Aftershock, my 35th coaster, was great. It runs smoothly, with little to no roughness. That train refurb must have did the trick, that and the new spring loaded wheel assemblies.

Aftershock has to be one of the most intense coasters I have ever been on. Now, I'm not talking about the entire ride, but mostly because of the backwards return trip. As a result of Tower 2 catch car now taking the train up higher on Tower 2, the loop is very intense, sometimes giving riders tunnel vision or blackouts.

Aftershock has proven to be a great addition to Silverwood, a long overdue addition at that. It is great to see that we have been able to tame the beast that Six Flags couldnt.

And with that photo, this concludes the PTR from Aftershock's opening day. I will have a PTR from July 22nd, as well as August 11th on the way. I would get those up now, however, I am extremely tired from work today. I will try to get the 7/22 PTR up sometime later today after I wake up. Thanks for viewing, and remember to check out the latest RCPro article on Aftershock at the following link.

Wow. It's too bad I had to miss opening day for the naming contest winners...that would've been fun. It's awesome that they made the height restriction 80", since the 72" restriction at Six flags was very difficult to deal with. I hope it'll keep working without problems for Silverwood; but at the first sign of a problem, everyone will say, "Oh, it's just like when it was with SF." I also can't wait for the possible new paint job. It'll make it fit in better and stop screaming SIX Flags to me. Apparently I'm very opinionated about this ride. Who knew?

Yes, the height restriction being bumped up to 80" was very nice, however, the 48" should not be, in my opinion. I have seen too many little kids get on Aftershock, and complain about hitting the bar in front of them. I understand that Silverwood was trying to make Aftershock to appeal to almost everyone, however, it's not good when you have small children hitting their heads on a bar in front of them.

I hope it'll keep working without problems for Silverwood; but at the first sign of a problem, everyone will say, "Oh, it's just like when it was with SF."
Oh, it's already happened. For every minor downtime Aftershock has, enthusiasts like to jump on the chance to say "I knew Silverwood wouldnt be able to get the Six Flags out of this." These statements are farthest from the truth. We have had little downtime with Aftershock, and it has been running smoothly for the most part ever since opening. Silverwood and Vekoma have done a lot to get Aftershock running better than it ever did at SFGAm, and they have done a great job of it.

I also can't wait for the possible new paint job. It'll make it fit in better and stop screaming SIX Flags to me. Apparently I'm very opinionated about this ride. Who knew?
Sadly, I dont think the green and blue is going anywhere anytime soon. There has been tons of new Aftershock merch released representing the green and blue, and the area signs for Aftershock are also repping the colors. So again, unfortunately, I dont think it will be sporting a new scheme anytime soon. At least the current scheme "pops" at Silverwood. :)

Oh, and dont worry about being very opinionated about Aftershock. Most people are. ;)

Awesome pictures Brandon!!!

Is it doing better reliability wise?

Yes, much, much better in fact. It will have sensor errors from time to time, but it's only minor stuff we have to live with until the off season. Next season it should be running even better than it is now.

I've had operators from SFGAm come to Silverwood as guests this season to ride Aftershock and to see how we have been operating it. Many of them have been impressed with how much better it is doing here, reliability and operating wise.

Great update, loving the pictures. This park kind of reminds me of what Knott's probably used to be like. Why must some things change? :p

^I've actually spoken with people - guests and fellow employees - and they say that although Silverwood had a Old Americana theme and feel going for 21 years, a lot of them feel that the Old Americana feel died with Aftershock. So your "why must some things change?" statement pretty much hits the nail right on the head.

Alright, time to get this PTR out. My 8/11 PTR will be on the way soon.

Is it, or is it not on-ride photography?
(It's not, it's just a photo taken from the exit path...)

And that concludes this small PTR from July 22nd. It would have been longer if the rain didnt come in and Aftershock could have stayed open longer. :( Oh well, it happens. I should be getting my PTR from 8/11 up soon!

EDIT: I added a Index of all of my PTRs and Updates posted in this thread to the first post of this thread. It will be updated until the last PTR/Update is posted from 2008.

So today officially ended Silverwood Theme Park's 2008 season. It was a great year, and according to a lot of returning employees, one of the best years Silverwood has had.

So, with the end of the season, marks the end of my PTRs. I will however go out to the park in the winter to get some photos from outside of the park, most likely while it is snowing.

Also, there was one PTR that I never got around to posting. I will try to get this up as soon as possible.

Thanks again to everyone who viewed this PTR thread, I really do appreciate it! Here's to next year!

Dude, please stop bringing back old topics. If you wanted to ask a simple question of the poster, use the PM.

OK, I am seriosly getting P***sed off! I don't consider a thread in the sub forums to be "bringing back old topics", when I post a response in them. If this was a 'dead' thread, Brandon or somone else would have deleted it a long time ago, Though there is nothing in the rules that says you cannot post on old topics, so seriously, chill out!

Nate
12-05-2008, 06:01 PM
First off, I clearly wasn't in need of "chilling out". Second, the thread you responded to hasn't been used in almost a month. And the most thoughtful thing you could ask is about the weather? I mean the post you are responding to was posted back in early November. I think you can guess that it wasn't too cold out, especially when the photos show that people were on the water rides.

Third, you continue to bring back threads that haven't been posted in for a long time. While there is no rule about this, it is generally considered that you don't need to post a question that was relevant at the time, months later. IE you don't need to ask how the weather was back in November. Do you remember the how nice it was on early November?

Fourth, and finally, why would someone delete a topic when it is done being discussed? Keeping old discussion to see a general history is perfectly fine. If we did that, we would have no world history to speak of.

You can refer to things, quote them, do whatever, but you don't need to ask these trivial questions or post items that do not contribute to the community. Sorry for this long unnecessary post, I'll stop after this, I'm just getting annoyed. I don't want to discourage you from discussion, but bring something to the table when you do it.

Steelinwood, first off thanks for showing intrest in my Silverwood 2008 season thread. I didn't think that this was actually going to be revived. However, I am dissapointed that the only intrest that you seemed to show was how hot or cold it was outside, not commenting on the park itself, or my photos. Anyway, to answer your question, I don't remember what the weather was like in August (when my last PTR was taken), considering that was 4 months ago...

Since the 2008 season for Silverwood ended on September 28, and there's really nothing left to post in this thread, i'm going to go ahead and lock it. If I see anything new out at Silverwood before the end of the year, I'll unlock it and post those pictures. There will more than likely be a new thread made in 2009 for my Silverwood PTRs from the 09 season. Until then, thanks for viewing this thread everyone.

P.S: Nate, although that last PTR was posted in November, it was actually taken in August haha. :p I got lazy and never posted that PTR until November.
