Thread: Terminator Salvation: The Ride (Update PG 49)

Exclamation Terminator Salvation: The Ride (Update PG 49)

    From Screamscape:
GCI Wooden Coaster - In Development - (6/24/08 ) I hinted at it before and now more Screamscape sources have stepped forward to confirm that Six Flags Magic Mountain will indeed get a new GCI wooden coaster for 2009. It seems that everyone was quite impressed with the premier of Evel Knievel at SFSL and are now very looking forward to seeing that GCI can come up with for a “bigger and meaner” California cousin. Nothing has been rumored as far as the site for the new coaster, though it would almost seem wrong to put it up on Psyclone’s old location I think, so anyone else have any other ideas?
It's almost 100% confirmed, so I'm definitely excited.

I know people are going to be commenting, "But what happened to the whole 'family' plan???" Well, if you think about it, Disney's right down the road, and so is KBF. KBF isn't much competition as far as "family" goes, but Disney on the other hand, is. You can't get a much better "family" experience anywhere else in the world. What I think Magic Mountain is doing is sticking to what they're known for, world class thrills.

Once a thrill park, always a thrill park. It'd be very hard to change that.

I think a GCI woodie is definitely family friendly. You have to remember that not all families are composed of two and three year olds..

Yay for a good woodie at the mountain!

GCI height limit is 6'' shorter than Beemers... that's a "kind" of family.

And even Voyage is advertised as a family ride.

If the rumor about Cedar Point also getting a new Wooden monster is true, 2009 will be a hell of a season

I couldn't disagree with you more. I believe that a GCII wooden coaster, with a height requirement of 48'', is very easy to market toward families. GCII's generally aren't super intense, and they usually offer a great comfortable ride, which the entire family can enjoy. A GCII is a perfect addition for the park.

Now the Terminator theme that Shapiro mentioned for the ride...seems like a weird theme for a woodie, but I'm sure that the finished product will turn out very nice.

I'm assuming this will be located in Psyclone's old spot?

A member at TPR searched where this rumor came from, and it's just some random Joe at ultimaterollercoaster.com who started the rumor. All he says is that his sources told him, but he doesn't mention anything other than it was at an ACE "banquet".

Also, how can it be Terminator themed if Terminator is a Universal movie?

One last thing, how can a Terminator ride be family friendly? The Terminator films are all rated "R" so it would be incredibly stupid to theme a family ride to this.

I just paraphrased what that TPR member also said.

As for what I think, a GCI wooden coaster will be great, but I think SFMM should work on its flat collection first before the add a coaster like this. Now, EK is supposedly a very good ride, and from what I've heard, families, teens, and enthusiasts like it. I'm not saying SFMM shouldn't build a coaster like it, but they should add some good flat rides first.

Wow, 2009 is looking to be a really really good year for coasters. If all goes well, I'll be able to ride several that open.

All rumors come from "sources" and I wouldn't call one more or less reliable then the next. I've heard this rumored around the net for a while, so I'm inclined to buy into it. Granted, this is something I'd like to see happen, so I am partially biased in that regard.

As for the Terminator theme, I don't think it will happen. Perhaps Shapiro likes the idea of it, but nothing more then that. Universal clearly owns the rights to the movie, and it's definitely not a family friendly theme. On the other hand, Terminator 4 is coming out next year.. so who knows.

Either way, 2009 looks like a fantastic coaster year. I should be able to decently bolster my coaster count next year .
